SOURCES
The content on this site was gathered from Internet searches. I looked for information regarding digital storytelling by using search engines such as Google and Academic Search Premier through Grand View University. Relevant and recent information was my primary concern. I think it is important to consider the publishing date when researching information that can quickly be outdated. I also chose to use educational sources, as educational institutions were the most likely to provide information that was accurate and relevant to digital storytelling. I found pictures in Creative Commons searches.
CREATING THE WEBSITE
What did I learn from the process of completing this assignment?
I learned that it is important to remember the purpose of the website when gathering information. There are many different directions that a person can take when communicating information about digital storytelling. I often had to step back and refer to the website's overall goal: to communicate how teachers and students can use storytelling in the classroom. This can be difficult when working across multiple webpages. I didn't have any technology struggles with this website. I tried to maintain consistency and style in order to create a cohesive website.
What did I learn about technology/myself from creating a website?
I learned that free websites can often have limitations, but they provide an easy way for people to communicate information. There were times when I wanted to add another graphical element, but the software didn't have a simple way to add it. I have created different blogs and websites in the past; some have used Wordpress and others have been from scratch, but this was the first time using a site like Weebly. I would definitely encourage anyone to use this site because of its simplicity, yet ability to adjust for themes and text elements.
